Food Project

Over the duration of the production period for this project, the theme changed many times. The original aim was for this to be a photoset merging sushi and women. Ideas then spilled into a ramen and sushi set. From there I wanted to make a cookbook. The cookbook aspect pushed me to work on a lot more than I originally planned, but with myself not being a chef made the non editing aspects kind of difficult. Over the two years of changing focus, I settled on just a food book.

Black Sands Beach Shoot

When most people think of Black Sands beach they think of Iceland, and as they should. Reynisfjara is a beautiful goal of a destination that I really would love to get to someday. Shooting subjects on black sands contrasted by pieces of scattered glaciers would be nothing short of incredible. That said I was pleasantly surprised that California had a black sands beach as well, and this one was beautiful in its own right.

Koi Fish mermaid bath

The concept behind this was pretty simple. Turn her into a mermaid but instead of some underwater shot, we wanted to do it in a stand alone bathtub. Used mostly natural lights for this. I did add some extra lighting for my own liking. The rest I handled in Photoshop.

Protection Witch Shoot

She wanted to do a sort of Asian witch aesthetic which I had 0 oppositions to. I thought it would be a pretty cool idea.

So some things we made sure to get for the shoot were props. The more elements we had, the more immersive we felt we could have made it. And funny how that worked out, the pictures came out really nice. But more than that, there was an atmosphere that developed as we were setting up and started shooting. It honestly felt like we weren’t alone there, and that in itself was creepy.
