LOCATION SCOUTING #5: Brooklyn Army Terminal

140 58th Street, Brooklyn, New York, 11220

Today’s episode of location scouting, Darien and I decided to check out the Brooklyn Army Terminal Building B

Surprisingly it was very easy to get to its right smack in the city of New York just in the borough of Brooklyn so I’m getting there was fairly simple, and we picked up our model along the way. Even though nothing was really planned, it was really coming together smoothly.

PROS:

  • Grade: S Free entry

  • Parking: Getting there, we first noticed there’s a lot of great parking. Though we did go during the middle of the week, there’s a huge parking on the peer directly behind the building, overlooking the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan as well as parts of Jersey

  • Equipment friendly: No one stopped me walking inside with my tripod. When going inside and exploring, we saw another photographer with their equipment as well. (I’d say not to overdo it.)

  • Food & Restrooms: Inside the building there is a working bathroom as well as some convenience stores. It’s also very close to a lot of restaurants in the area, so you don’t really worry about going hungry or trying hard to find a bathroom to visit

  • Train: If you don’t want to drive, there’s a train station nearby (walking distance.) The N and R line at 59th street.

  • Cat

CONS:

  • People: This place can get populated quick. This is still an area where other people work, as well as a known shooting spot. So, I recommend shooting early mornings if possible or on weekdays

  • Variance: Not the biggest issue here and just nitpicking but in the end, it is one giant room. So, after the initial burst of uniqueness some of your background shots may become repetitive. You can get around this by exploring the area. There’s a number of great places.

Grade: S

Darien and model Mistress Alexxxia checking in on some photos.

The interior has an atmospheric vibe of being abandoned in industrial. You can definitely do a lot of surreal and fashion photo sets here.

If you want to do cosplay, I highly recommend.

  • Ghibli films

  • Final Fantasy

  • Nier: Automata

  • Ghost in the Shell

Both Overcast and sunny days it would look great here the sunny days leave light streaks that bounce around and hit on all the architecture and overcast really gives atmospheric feeling in character to the location

But there are a lot of really cool vantage points if you can get to them

Overall Review

Grade S: You’re getting a unique vibe of a location from an interior, which is extremely hard to do legally in New York. It offers of lots of unique perspectives for this location. It also has lots of extreme conveniency with a bathroom and place to eat. Along with being next to not just restaurants, but also train stations so it’s very easy to come to and navigate. If you come with a car, its adjacent to a huge parking lot via pier. Which leads to another place to take photos

It seems like a really chill place where workers and photographers respect each other’s space. I’m guessing people have been hanging out and shooting here for a while. Overall, I very much do you want to come back here and take more photos

During out time here, Darien and I took some photos with our model Mistress Alexxxia.

As with tradition after shooting the three of us went to go get some nice Ramen nearby and enjoy the rest of your night.
