The Ultimate Lighthouse bucket List
OK, anyone that knows me knows that over the last two years I have had a really big obsession with lighthouses lately. So, in this blog post I want to basically go over my bucket list for lighthouses around the world that I’d love to go and visit someday. Lighthouses are just so fascinating to me. There’s a level of romance they share with the sea, and it compliments well with the fact that they have really nice architecture, history, urban legends and lore. From fascinating sea creatures to horrifying accounts of bad things that happened at those places or hauntings. As a photographer scouting locations, there’s so much you can make from it.
For my list I basically had two key requirements.
Architecture and aesthetics. Not every lighthouse is going to go on my list and that’s fine. It’s my personal list. It had to call out to me, pull me in and hijack my senses for me to really want to go and visit it.
Location: Not just the building itself but the surrounding location was key for me. I love lighthouses that are right next to the waterfront. I’m not the biggest fan of lighthouses that are in the middle of town, or other areas unless it's really cute or works really well aesthetically. Sometimes the irregularity can make it more interesting and be a strength, but it’s a case-by-case basis.
North America
Europe
Asia
Oceania
After going through this list, if there’s some lighthouses that you can recommend, please do. If you have some personal favorites of your own please feel free to share. I would love to check it out.
